The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles won inside CU Arena on Saturday night, 86-61, over Notre Dame de Namur.
By the Numbers: Matt Scott led CUI with 20 points, and JT Roach added in 17. Stephen Grosey added 12 points and seven rebounds. Case Bruton scored 10 points. Mike Mellinger grabbed seven rebounds and Martin Thomas dished six assists and Roach and Mellinger had three.
The Difference: CUI hit 11 threes and won the rebounding battle 39-22, and dished 20 assists. CUI also had four blocks. CUI outscored the Argonauts 53-36 in the second half.
Critical Plays: Grosey scored the first Eagle basket four minutes in as NDNU led 8-2. Threes from Justin Davis and JT Roach tied the game at eight. Roach hit another as the teams were going back and forth, and CUI led 18-16. Jumpers from Roach and Case Bruton helped expand that to 28-22. NDNU hit a late three and CUI led 33-25 at the half. The teams played close through the first seven minutes of the second half, and CUI led 45-35. Martin Thomas hit a three to make it 52-39. Roach and Matt Scott dialed back-to-back threes and it was 64-47 Eagles. CUI finished with the 86-61 win.
What it Means: Concordia has now won two in a row, and is 13-3 and 6-2 in the conference.
