The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles came storming back late for the second time in three nights, but fell short again at home, this time 63-62 to Holy Names on Monday.
By the Numbers: Brittany Stafford led the CUI charge again with 16 points and Tyler Crockom was great late with 11 points and two vital three-point plays. Elizabeth Rudd scored 11 and Ryan Robinson was effective with 10 points. Crockom and Zoe Goss each grabbed five boards, and Stafford had four assists.
The Difference: CUI was outrebounded 43-31, and shot 39% compared to 45% for the Hawks. The Eagles did attack and make 10 more free throws.
Critical Plays: Stafford setup Zoe Goss to cut the HNU lead to 18-12 in the first quarter. CUI trailed 28-17 early in the second quarter, but Elizabeth Rudd responded with a three. Stafford completed a three-point play to get within three. The Hawks built the lead back to 36-26 as both teams struggled to score. Jasmine Davis scored late and HNU led 38-30 at the half. Ryan Robinson hit a three four minutes into the third quarter as the Hawks were getting some distance. Rudd hit a three to cut it to one, 44-43 with two minutes left in the third. HNU took the 49-43 lead into the fourth. Stafford scored in the paint to pull within three, 54-51, but HNU responded with a three. A three-point play from Tyler Crockom got it to 63-58 with one minute left and another one got it within two. A free throw got CUI within one with 10 seconds left,
What it Means: The Eagles fell to 2-12 and 1-8 in the conference.
