Eagles close gap in fourth but fall to Dominican

The Rundown:  The Concordia Eagles lost to Dominican, 74-84, in San Rafael on Saturday night. 
 
The Difference:  Zoe Goss led the Eagles in scoring with 16 points and two steals.  Brittany Stafford followed with 14 points while contributing eight rebounds.  The Eagles suffered from giving up 27 turnovers in the loss compared to Dominicans 16.  Turnovers resulted in 32 points against the Eagles.  The Eagles did well off the bench, as they were able to put up 31 points.  The Eagles were out rebounded offensively 17-27 giving Dominican second chance points, which contributed to the 10-point difference.
 
Critical Plays:  The Eagles started the first quarter with an early lead after Brittany Stafford scored the games first points.  Ryan Robinson nailed a three to put the Eagles ahead 5-1 early in the first, but Dominican would eventually take control, ending the first quarter with a 14-8 lead.  The Eagles battled in the second quarter and stayed within a three-point margin of Dominican.  Gaby Johnson knocked down a three to put the Eagles ahead 25-24 and again at the 5:50 mark to put the Eagles ahead 29-28.  The Eagles trailed 33-37 at the half.  In the third, Dominican was off to a hot start taking a 41-33 lead in the first minute.  The Eagles fell behind and went into the fourth 46-62.  In the fourth the Eagles pulled even after Zoe Goss knocked down two free throws at the 7:20 mark.  Dominican was quick to regain a nine-point lead a few minutes later and held on until the end, resulting in a 74-84 Eagles loss.
 
What it Means:  The Eagles are now 2-13 overall and 1-9 in the PacWest.
 
Up Next:  CUI will take on Notre Dame de Namur on Monday at 5 pm in Belmont, Calif. in hopes of redeeming a one point loss at home last week.
