The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles let a late 10-point lead slip away as they fell at home to Hawaii Hilo 68-63 on Thursday.
By the Numbers: Brittany Stafford and Tyler Crockom led the way for CUI with 15 points each, grabbing seven and eight rebounds, respectively. Elizabeth Rudd hit three threes for 11 points off the bench. Stafford also dished five assists.
The Difference: The stats were close as the game was, a late three-pointer from UHH gave them the lead they would not relinquish and CUI missed two free throws to tie.
Critical Plays: Haley Brown hit a three and CUI led 9-8 at the first media timeout. After briefly trailing, Elizabeth Rudd dialed home a three to make it 14-12 CUI with two left. Hilo took a 17-16 lead into the second quarter. A jumper from Brittany Stafford kept CUI close, 27-26 midway through the second quarter. Ashley Earles hit a three to get the lead. CUI took the 31-29 lead into the half. Stafford hit two freebies and Concordia led 41-36 six minutes into the third quarter. CUI took a 43-41 lead into the final quarter. Rudd hit a three from the corner and CUI was up 48-43. Brown hit a three midway through the fourth for the largest lead, 58-48. The Vulcans came roaring back, 63-61 with one minute left. UHH hit a big three to jump ahead 64-63, and held on 68-63.
What it Means: The Eagles lost the chance to gain their first conference win, and fell to 1-9 and 0-5 in the PacWest.
