The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles got their first-ever PacWest win on Saturday, 89-75 over Dixie State inside CU Arena.
By the Numbers: Brittany Stafford had another great night, with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Zoe Goss slashed for 18 points and Elizabeth Rudd and Tyler Crockom added 10 each. Ashley Earles started and scored 12. Rudd and Crockom had five dimes each.
The Difference: The Eagles attacked the rim and made 10 more foul shots than the Red Storm, handling their press. CUI shot 47% from the field, getting easy shots all night.
Critical Plays: Stafford paced CUI to a 6-1 lead with two early jumpers. The Eagles continued to break the press well and get layups, leading 24-16. The Red Storm started finding their stroke from three and pulled to 32-28 with four minutes left in the half. Stafford was solid down the stretch and CUI led 41-35 at the break. Elizabeth Rudd nailed a three and Stafford scored on the reverse, and CUI tallied five points out of the gate at half. CUI turned up the full court pressure late in the third quarter, and Zoe Goss stole one and score for the 59-49 lead. CUI took a 12-point lead into the fourth quarter.
What it Means: The Eagles pick up the conference win, now 1-5 and 2-9 overall.
