Eagles Win Two Against San Marcos

The Concordia Eagles played a double header on Friday, February 12th at Eagles Field and picked up two wins against the Cal State San Marcos Cougars.  The Eagles won the first game 6-2 and the second 4-2.

In the first game, Tino Leite scored the first run of the day for the Eagles when John Bornhop laid down a sac bunt.  The Eagles held their 1-0 lead through the sixth inning until Hunter Holland doubled though the left side to set up a single from Brett Barker.  With runners on first and third, John Bornhop approached the plate and singled to right field to bat in Holland, extending the Eagles lead 2-0.  The Eagles ended up scoring two more runs scored (John Bornhop and Brett Barker) and ended the inning 5-1.  The Eagles would score one more run in the game as well as CSUSM driving in one run in the eighth and ninth inning.  Bornhop recorded two RBI's and the Eagles took the first match up, 6-2.  The Eagles recorded zero errors in the first game compared to the Cougars three.  Isaiah Terrazas recorded two strikeouts and gave up seven hits.  Eagles pitcher, Isaiah Terrazas, pitched the entire game and picked up his first win of the season.

In the second game, Leite was first to score again after stealing third and advancing home after a throwing error by the catcher.  The Eagles led 1-0 until the Cougars tied it up in the second when Colin Dvorak singled up the middle to drive in Brandon Bentson.  In the third, CSUSM took a 2-1 lead in the third but the Eagles were quick to respond when Hunter Holland doubled through the right side to bring in Tine Leite.  Holland would eventually score after a wild pitch by Cougars pitcher, Emilio Esquibel, to regain the advantage, 3-2.  In the bottom of the fifth after CSUSM made multiple pitching changes, Bornhop doubled to right center field with two outs and no one on base.  Spencer Nielsen subsequently singled which brought Bornhop around to score extending the Eagles lead, 4-2.

The Concordia Eagles record improves to 3-3 overall.  The action will continue with game three and four of the series against Cal State San Marcos tomorrow, February 13th in San Marcos, CA starting at 11am.
