The Concordia Eagles dropped a doubleheader at CSU San Marocs, 13-0 and 4-3, on Saturday afternoon.
In the first game, the Eagles struggled to advance runners and move them into scoring position although recording six hits.Â
Brett Barker hit a double down the left field line in the top of the first with two outs but was unable to be driven in. Errors affected the Eagles and allowed CSUSM to score their first run of the game after a passed ball and a subsequent error to set up two more runs, giving the Cougars a 3-0 lead in the first. In the second, Chad Whiteaker hit a shot to the outfield and advanced to third on the throw after Spencer Nielsen was thrown out at home plate. Brian Fleischli put the ball in play in the next at bat and reached on a fielder's choice; however, Whiteaker was also thrown out at home to prevent the Eagles from scoring. The Eagles lost 13-0.
Spencer Moran recorded a loss putting his record 0-1 and Cougars Manny Barragan picked up the win.Â
In game two, CUI scored two runs in the seventh, but came up just a run short.
Brett Barker went deep and also took the loss on the mound. Four other Eagles had singles.
After Tino Leite singled in the first and scored on John Bornhop's single. The Cougars scored two in the fifth to grab the 4-1 edge. Hunter Holland singled to lead off the seventh and Barker homered to right to drive him in. The Cougars forced three straight outs from there.Â
Concordia goes to 3-5 after the four-game set and travels to UC San Diego next Friday for a 6 pm game.
