The Rundown: Concordia improved to 4-0 on day two of the Northwest Cup on Saturday afternoon.
Concordia 9, British Columbia 1
By the Numbers: Nicole Chavez homered twice and Megan Feuerstein doubled. Ryann Ferguson and Alyssa Yglesias each had two hits. Susana Gurney went to 4-1, pitching five innings of three-hit ball.
The Difference:Â CUI scored nine runs on 12 hits, and Gurney needed only two of them.
Critical Plays: Hannah Howell singled in the second and Chavez followed with a bomb to left. Amy Eilefson drove home a run in the third, and Hanna Miller and Jasmin Dresser drove in two more. Feuerstein, Ferguson, and Yglesias singled in the fourth to score two more and Chavez hit a two-run walkoff in the fifth.
Concordia 3, College of Idaho 1
By the Numbers: Ferguson, Dresser, and Hannah Howell all doubled. Ferguson led the squad with two hits. Grayson Harvey locked down COI, going seven strong allowing just two hits to improve to 7-0.
The Difference:Â CUI scored three in the third and that was all Harvey need with eight K's.
Critical Plays: The Eagle offense broke through in the third as Hanna Miller singled, and after another reached on an error, Howell doubled to left center to drive in two. Ferguson doubled home Howell for CUI's three runs. Harvey worked around a walk in the seventh to secure the win.
"We played well today, with Nicole Chavez coming through in game one and Grayson and Susana throwing well," CUI head coach Crystal Rosenthal said. Â "We are continuing to improve everyday and look forward to conference next week."
What it Means: Concordia improved to 14-1 on the day.
