Eagles Drop Series Closer To Tritons

The Concordia baseball team dropped their final outing at UC San Diego on Sunday 6-2.  The Eagles record drops to 4-8 on the season.

Starting on the mound for the Eagles was Brett Barker who pitched through the sixth inning.  Barker gave up six hits on six runs, two strikeouts, and recorded his second loss of the year.  Garrett Kraemer relieved Barker in the seventh and allowed one hit and no runs.

The Eagles were first to score in the first inning when Chad Whiteaker singled to right field and drove in Hunter Holland.  The Tritons tied it up in the bottom of the second to even the score 1-1.  In the third, Brett Barker scored after a throwing error by the second baseman to regain the lead, 2-1.

The Tritons took the lead for the final time in the fourth inning and then scored two more runs in the seventh to win the game 6-2.

The Eagles made three errors on the afternoon compared to the Tritons four.

From head coach Joe Turgeon, "Today unfortunately got away from us in the seventh with a HBP, Error, and a BB.  UCSD made us pay for free outs and free bases with a triple.  In any game the ultimate goal is to win but in order to give yourself the best chance you need to win more pitches."

"The responsibility of finding better ways to put us in a better place to win pitches is all on me.  I'm not making this about me but when we are not successful it is on me.  Our record shows I haven't prepared our staff and players well enough.  With that said all of us in this program will continue to stick to the process of what we believe in and get better in any and all aspects of this game."

The Eagles will take on Hawaii Pacific in Kaneohe, Hawaii on Friday, February 26th at 8 pm PST in the first game of PacWest conference play.
