The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles copied Monday's performance and finished strong Thursday with a 79-63 win over Hawaii Pacific inside CU Arena.
By the Numbers: Stephen Grosey had another double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. JT Roach was back with 15 points and Justin Davis added 11. Martin Thomas had six assists.Â
The Difference: CUI shot a scorching 55% and 58% in the second half with a myriad of layups. They won on the boards 39-29.
Critical Plays: CUI took tough shots early and trailed 11-4 and they extended it to 18-9 but the second media timeout. Baskets from Grosey and Adam Turner cut it to 20-15. Martin Thomas fooled everyone and found Turner for the dunk in transition, 21-21. The Sharks pulled back ahead 29-25 before Justin Davis hit a three. JT Roach dialed home a three and CUI led 31-29 with two minutes left. HPU drove the full court to finish the half and led 36-35 at the half. Matt Scott opened the second half with a three to regain the lead, and Geoff Gerlach and Case Bruton added four more. Grosey converted in the lane and CUI led 48-42 with 12 minutes left. Davis hit a pullup to make it 52-42 one minute later. A three-point play from Grosey extended it to 67-51. HPU never put a run together and CUI took it 79-63.
What it Means:Â The Eagles improve to 20-3 and 13-2 in the PacWest, the 13th 20-win season in coach Ken Ammann's 15 years.
