Eagles Run Away In Second Half Again, This Time From Sharks

The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles copied Monday's performance and finished strong Thursday with a 79-63 win over Hawaii Pacific inside CU Arena.

By the Numbers:  Stephen Grosey had another double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.  JT Roach was back with 15 points and Justin Davis added 11.  Martin Thomas had six assists.

The Difference:  CUI shot a scorching 55% and 58% in the second half with a myriad of layups.  They won on the boards 39-29.

Critical Plays:  CUI took tough shots early and trailed 11-4 and they extended it to 18-9 but the second media timeout.  Baskets from Grosey and Adam Turner cut it to 20-15.  Martin Thomas fooled everyone and found Turner for the dunk in transition, 21-21.  The Sharks pulled back ahead 29-25 before Justin Davis hit a three.  JT Roach dialed home a three and CUI led 31-29 with two minutes left.  HPU drove the full court to finish the half and led 36-35 at the half.  Matt Scott opened the second half with a three to regain the lead, and Geoff Gerlach and Case Bruton added four more.  Grosey converted in the lane and CUI led 48-42 with 12 minutes left.  Davis hit a pullup to make it 52-42 one minute later.  A three-point play from Grosey extended it to 67-51.  HPU never put a run together and CUI took it 79-63.

What it Means:  The Eagles improve to 20-3 and 13-2 in the PacWest, the 13th 20-win season in coach Ken Ammann's 15 years.

Up Next:  The Eagles travel to Fresno Pacific for a 4:30 pm showdown on Saturday.
