The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles held off a late second-half FPU charge and won in Fresno, 69-63, on Saturday afternoon.
By the Numbers: JT Roach led CUI with 18 points and Justin Davis added 12. Geoff Gerlach and Stephen Grosey both had eight, and Grosey and Roach grabbed 10 boards each.Â
The Difference:Â CUI outscored the Sunbirds in the paint, 38-22, and 39-14 off the bench.
Critical Plays: FPU led 7-4 before CUI went on a tear, scoring 26-straigt points to gain a lead they would never relinquish. The led by as much as 16 in the first half, and led 37-28 at the half. Roach scored a layup four minutes into the second half to build the lead to 14, 48-34. FPU trimmed it to 48-44 with nine minutes left. CUI again responded with eight straight. The Sunbirds trimmed it again to 55-60, but Davis came back with a layup and CUI eventually won 69-63.Â
What it Means:Â The Eagles remain in first place in the PacWest with a 14-2 mark and 21-3 overall.
