The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles fell at home to UC San Diego on Thursday night, 0-3.
By the Numbers: Ryan Anselmo and Joseph Pillon led with 10 kills each, Pillon hitting .318. Taylor Falduti added eight kills and Griffin Ender had 15 digs.
The Difference:Â UCSD had seven aces to CUI's one, and kept a slightly higher sideout percentage, even though the first two sets went to extra points.
Critical Plays: CUI grabbed a two-point lead in set one on two Triton errors that they held until UCSD tied at 25 and finished three-straight to win 27-25. CUI went ahead again 6-2 in set two, but the Tritons came back 6-5 and tie at eight. A kill from Anselmo and Pillon put CUI up 12-8, but against UCSD came back 12-11. UCSD grabbed the lead 17-15. CUI got within one, but UCSC pulled back ahead 22-19, forcing CUI's second timeout. A block from Taylor Falduti and Andrew Hammer tied the game at 22. Dylan Thompson's solo block gave Concordia the 24-23, but the Tritons came back to take it 29-27. UCSD grabbed a commanding 11-5 lead early in set three. A block from Falduti gave CUI a little life, 12-16. In the end UCSD took it 25-19.Â
What it Means: It marked the Eagles first loss at home since a January 17, 2-3 loss to Grand Canyon. It snapped a 30-match win streak inside CU Arena.Â
