The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles fell on the road to UCLA in Pauley Pavilion, 0-3, on Friday night.
By the Numbers: No Eagles were in double figures with kills, but Timothy Moses led with six kills and Ryan Anselmo added five. The Eagles were in position to win set one, but UCLA came back and took and used the momentum to finish in three.
The Difference:Â UCLA almost doubled CUI up in kills and out-blocked them 10-2.Â
Critical Plays: Three straight errors from the Bruins in the first set gave CUI the 8-6 lead. A kill from Anselmo extended that to 12-8, but UCLA came back to tie at 13. Moses had two-straight aces to lead 17-14, and led late 23-20 after a kill from Andrew Hammer. UCLA scored five-straight to steal the set. Concordia hung tough in set two, trailing 12-10. A block from Joseph Pillon and Hammer, and a kill from Pillon tied at 14, before UCLA took three-straight and finished 25-21. With the score 11-9 in set three, UCLA scored 11 of the next 14 points to take control and win 25-18.
What it Means:Â The Eagles dropped to 10-5 on the year and 1-4 in very tough road games.
Up Next:Â It doesn't get any easier for CUI as they travel to powerhouse USC and the Galen Center on March 16 for a 7 pm start.
