The Concordia Eagles defeated the Academy of Art Urban Knight, 2-0, on Sunday at home. This marks the first series sweep for CUI this season. The Eagles record improves to 16-16 overall and 12-8 in the PacWest.
Pitching for the Eagles to start the game was
Brett Barker. He pitched through the eighth inning and allowed four hits, no runs, and recorded seven strikeouts. Barker recorded the win and improved his record to 2-2. Garret Kraemer relieved Barker in the eighth and allowed one hit and no runs. He recorded three strikeouts.
Nick Boyett pitched the ninth and closed the game out for the Eagles.
The game was scoreless through the third inning; the Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the fourth.
Brett Barker reached base after a fielding error by Urban Knights second baseman and Tino
Leite was able to advance to third.
John Bornhop singled through the right side to bring in Leite for the run.
In the sixth,
Brett Barker led off the inning with a double down the left field line.
John Bornhop hit a sacrifice bunt to move Barker to third and make the first out of the inning.
Hunter Holland walked to put runners on first and third for
Spencer Nielsen. Nielsen hit a sacrifice fly to left center to bring Barker across and extend the Eagle lead, 2-0.
The Eagles were able to shut out the Urban Knights and hold on for the 2-0 victory. With the win, the Eagles made their first series sweep of the season, winning all four games over the course of three days.
The Eagles will play at home on Thursday in their next matchup, which is against Point Loma starting at 12 pm for a double header.
