Concordia Baseball Drops Non-Conference Match-Up Against Toros

Eagles Baseball dropped their non-conference matchup against CSU Dominguez Hills on Tuesday afternoon in Carson by a score of 10-5.  The Eagles record now stands just above .500 at 19-18 overall.

CUI took an early 3-0 lead by scoring twice in the first inning and once more in the second before the Toros were on the board.  Chad Whiteaker hit a home run to left field to bring home the first two runs in the first and Joey Thompson recorded an RBI single, bringing in Tino Leite, after bunting in the second.

The Toros scored in the second to close the gap, 3-1, but rallied in the third and brought around five earned runs.  CSU Dominguez Hills hit six singles and a double on Eagles starting pitcher, Isaiah Terrazas, to contribute to the five run inning.

Terrazas allowed six runs, five earned, on nine hits and pitched until two outs in the third.  Colin Orellana finished the inning and stayed in through the seventh.  He gave up three hits on two runs.  Spencer Moran pitched the eighth for the Eagles, while allowing three hits on three runs.  Terrazas was given the loss and his record now stands at 4-3 on the season.  Luke Laurita booked the win for the Torros.

It wasn't until the fifth inning that the Eagles recorded a hit since the second.  Luke Hussung singled up the middle to start the inning and Ryan Land homered right after to bring the Eagles within one at a score of 6-5.

In the seventh, the Toros hit a two run homer to left field and allowed two more runs to score in the eighth.  The Eagles fell behind 10-5.

CUI finished the game with five runs, twelve hits, and one error.

The Eagles started the ninth with a lead-off single and a subsequent walk to put Ryan Land on first and Luke Hussung on second, but grounded into a double play shortly after.  The Toros put away the last out and won 10-5.

"Today's game at CSU Dominguez Hills was an offensive ball field because of the wind and because both teams swung the bats well.  We had a plan going into the day with our pitching staff and I take the blame for leaving Terrazas in a few hitters too long.  He's been our horse and he deserved the chance to try and finish the inning," said Eagles head coach Joe Turgeon.

"We played well defensively on a difficult day to play good defense.  I am proud of that and we as a staff are proud of everyone's attitude and effort the entire game."

The next outing for the Eagles will start a four game series at California Baptist on Thursday, April 7th at 6 pm in a single nine inning game.
