CUI Takes Split With Doane At Eagles Field

The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles split with Doane, 1-5 and 5-0, at Eagles Field on Tuesday.

Concordia 1, Doane 5

By the Numbers:  Amy Eilefson homered, but CUI only had three other singles.  Susana Gurney gave up five runs, two earned, on seven hits.  BethAnn McCann allowed only one hit over two and a third innings.

The Difference: Doane took advantage of CUI's three errors with a couple timely hits to match, and CUI was held in check by Ellie Doughty.

Critical Plays:  Doane used one hit, one error, and two walks to score two runs in the first.  The Tigers tacked on two more in the second on another CUI error.  Amy Eilefson had CUI's first hit with a solo shot in the fourth.  Singles by Jasmin Dresser and Hanna Miller followed to put two more on base.  CUI did not capitalize and DC got one more in the fifth.  Ryann Ferguson singled up the middle with two outs in the bottom half, but CUI could not score anymore in the game.

Concordia 5, Doane 0

By the Numbers: Hannah Howell homered and drove in two runs, and Yglesias doubled.  Grayson Harvey only allowed one hit, and had six strikeouts. 

The Difference:  Harvey was untouchable, pitching her fifth shutout of the year and best outing with one hit.

Critical Plays:  Alyssa Yglesias opened the third with a smoked double to right field.  Eilefson singled to left two batters later for the 1-0 lead.  After an error, Hannah Howell and Nicole Chavez singled, and another error made it 4-0 CUI.  Howell hit a home run to right center in the fifth to make it 5-0.  Harvey gave up her first hit in the seventh, but finished the game with a shutout. 

What it Means:  The Eagles ended the day 23-4 on the season.
