CUI Offense Bounces Back In Game Two To Split At CSUSM

The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles split on the road at CSU San Marcos on Friday, 0-1 and 6-2 in San Marcos.

Concordia 0, CSU San Marcos 1

By the Numbers:  Ryann Ferguson led with two hits and Grayson Harvey pitched the full game, allowing just four hits but one run in the tough loss.

The Difference:  CSUSM took advantage of their two hits in the fifth and CUI left six runners on base against Ashley Dagenais.

Critical Plays:  The Eagles stranded runners on base in every inning through the first three innings.  Harvey stranded Cougar runners in the second and third.  The Eagles offense struggled through the next two innings.  Two hits saw CSUSM take a lead in the fifth, 1-0.  Ryann Ferguson singled in the sixth, but did not score.  Jasmin Dresser singled up the middle to start the seventh and a sac bunt moved her over.  She was left standing there as the Cougars won 1-0.

Concordia 6, CSU San Marcos 2

By the Numbers:  BethAnn McCann continued to put together quality outings, going the distance allowing six hits and two runs, one earned, to improve to 9-2.  Ferguson doubled and homered, and Hannah Howell doubled.  Ferguson had three knocks and Howell had two.

The Difference:  The Cougars scored two runs in the first, but Concordia responded with one in the fifth but took control with five runs in the sixth.

Critical Plays:  Three hits and an error paced CSUSM to an early 2-0 lead.  After Kaylee Dalgarn singled in the fifth she eventually scored on Charlotte Foster's groundout.  Nicole Chavez singled to start the sixth and Howell doubled to tie the game.  After a walk and hit batter, Ferguson hit a grand slam to blow it wide open.

"Grayson Harvey threw well in game one, but we had a rough day at the plate," CUI head coach Crystal Rosenthal said.  "I am proud of our response in game two."

What it Means:  Concordia ends the day 30-9 overall.

Up Next:  The Eagles have a week off before hosting Hawaii Pacific at home next Friday at 2 pm.
