In their fourth consecutive PacWest Conference win, Concordia Women's Volleyball topped the Urban Knights from Academy of Art Friday night in three sets. The Eagles' offensive engine continued to run smoothly in the sweep, they generated 54 points in three games while holding their opponents to just 30.
Not only were the Eagles adding up points on kills, but from the service line and on the block. The produced eight from aces and 12 on blocks. Marcela Frazzoni had a trio of aces and Riley Gill added a pair. Amber Rose, Maddie Deters and Ailsa Watson each had one. Rose led the team with 13.5 points from nine kills and six blocks to accompany her ace. Cindy Tran hit .714 with five kills, zero errors and four blocks. Kyra Auten hit a perfect .1000 from four kills on fours swings with five blocks.
The Eagles opened up the match with a 4-4 tie with the Urban Knights, but after a three-point run to gain a small cushion, the Eagles did not surrender the lead the remainder of the match. With a 19-13 lead, Concordia claimed six in a row on five Academy of Art errors for the 25-13 win.
The Knights flew to a three-point lead in the second, but the Eagles responded with kills from Rose and Rachel Flynn to cut the lead to one. Academy of Art put together three more points to force an Eagle timeout. Concordia bounced back with four points on two errors from the Knights and Kills from Gill and Hailey Gaines. The series of trading runs continued, with Academy of Art stretching three more, followed by the Eagles' nine consecutive. Using a seven-point advantage, the Eagles locked up game two 25-15.
In set three, the Eagles kept their opponents to a -.032 attack percentage and tallied 13 kills to close out the match. Although the Knights pushed back late in the game, they were unable to catch up to Concordia's early 16-8 lead.
At 8-8 and 4-5 in the PacWest, the Eagles return to play Saturday against Notre Dame De Namur at 11 a.m. In the first match between the Argonauts and the Eagles of 2017, Notre Dame De Namur (6-4 PacWest) took a 3-1 win.Â
