Gast lifts Eagles to 2-1 victory over DSU on Senior Day

IRVINE, CALIF.— The Concordia Women's soccer team (7-5-1, 6-3 PWC) honored seniors Megan Matchett and Darby Clements with a comeback win. The Eagles fought to the final whistle against the Dixie State Trailblazers (12-5, 8-4 PWC) who are in fourth place in the PacWest standings after the 2-1 loss to CUI. Katie Gast netted two goals in eight minutes and added a win to the Eagles record.

The first half began with intensity on Eagles Field. Possession of the ball switched back and forth with each team playing through the middle of the field. Not many outside flank attacks were seen from either teams midfield or forwards.

At the end of the first half, Dixie State struck first with a goal off a free kick that sailed into the box. DSU's Murdock flicked the ball with her head into the back of the net. CUI keeper Kaelyn Whitcomb came out to challenge the play and the ball was pushed past her hands.

At the start of the second half, the Trailblazers did not let up bringing the pressure on Eagles defense from the kickoff. Senior goalkeeper Clements took her spot in the net for the second half immediately encountering offensive attempts by Dixie State. Towards the end of the second half, the Eagles spent the majority of the time in their offensive third putting pressure on the Trailblazers defense.

In the 82nd minute, Katie Gast drilled a shot off her right foot into the back of the net to score the equalizer, 1-1. Gast was assisted by Cienah Reed

Continuing the offensive momentum, the Eagles found themselves at the corner and with 40 seconds remaining, Gast struck again. Reed lofted the corner kick into the 18 yard box and Gast got a head on it, redirecting it into the goal for the game winner and a 2-1 final score.

The Eagles return to the field on November 2nd against Notre Dame de Namur. Kickoff is scheduled for 12pm.
