Eagles spook Hawks in 3-0 PacWest win

LIVERMORE, CALIF. — The Concordia Women's Soccer Team (8-5-1, 7-3 PWC) competed on Tuesday morning for a rescheduled PacWest match-up against the Holy Names University Hawks (0-15-1, 0-10-1 PWC). The Eagles claim victory 3-0 with goals by Megan Matchett, her first of the season, Megan Hussey and Marianna Maldonado

Both teams appeared to be passing possession of the ball back and forth in the first half. The Hawks attacked first with a shot on goal and a save by Kaelyn Whitcomb. Neither team could find the back of the net by the end of the first half. The Eagles recorded 10 shots total and held the Hawks to just two.

The second half began with renewed intensity from the Eagles. During the 59th minute, Concordia drew a foul and received a free kick. Senior Matchett  served the ball over the wall of opponents and into the back of the net, putting the Eagles on the board 1-0.

The Eagles offense continued to apply pressure with shots from Carmany Jones and McKenna Carrillo. After a quick CUI substitution, Cienah Reed entered the pitch. Reed played the ball to Hussey who drilled a shot past the keeper and into the net, extending the Eagles lead to 2-0.

With 20 seconds left in the match, Maldonado sealed the deal for Concordia finding the back of the net for a 3-0 win.

The Eagles ripped a total of 28 shots with 17 on goal. The Hawks added two more shots to their first half count, finishing the match with a total of four shots and two on goal.

Concordia Women's Soccer Team travels to Belmont, Calif. for a PacWest tilt against Notre Dame de Namur. Kickoff is scheduled for 12pm on Thursday, November 2nd.
