In the second match of Concordia's road trip to Hawai'i, the Eagles earned a commanding three-set victory over the Sharks of HPU. The Eagles hit .311 as a team while holding the Sharks to .026 to claim a 25-15, 25-21, 25-14 PacWest sweep.
Concordia outscored the Sharks 56-29 and doubled their amount of kills. In addition, the Eagles dominated from the service line with nine aces.
After battling to a 15-14 score in set one, Concordia strung together a 10-1 run highlighted by kills from Cindy Tran, Hailey Gaines and three aces from Logan Grove to take a 1-0 lead.
The Sharks shook things up in set two and jumped to a 16-12 lead. After a Concordia timeout, the teams traded points until the Eagles cut the lead to three. Rachel Flynn put away a set from Jessica Diederich to ignite a four point run and tie the game at 20. After an Eagle service error, Concordia utilized four Shark mistakes and a kill from Kyra Auten to take the comeback win in set two.
In the final game, the Eagles' 10 point run set them comfortably ahead of the Sharks. Despite a five point push back from HPU, the Eagles responded with kills from Jaclyn Brown, Flynn and Tran to take back the momentum. With match point, Auten closed the book on the Sharks with a kill.
Diederich led the Eagles with 20 assists and four aces. Tran posted 10 kills and Flynn added nine with six digs.
Concordia concludes its time in Hawai'i Monday against the Vulcans of University of Hawai'i at Hilo. The game is scheduled for 10 p.m.Â
