Women's Volleyball sends off six seniors with sweep over UHH

Concordia Women's Volleyball celebrated its six seniors Friday night with a sweep over the University of Hawaii at Hilo. The victory over the Vulcans improved the Eagles record to 16-9 and 12-6 in the PacWest.

Prior to the match, seniors Jessica Diederich, Marcela Frazzoni, Maddy Deters, Kyra Auten, Amber Rose and Rachel Flynn were honoroed for their accomplishments as Eagles. In the past four seasons, this group holds a career record of 90 wins and 31 losses. They made it to the NAIA National Semi-Final in 2014 and they helped lead the way to Concordia's first PacWest Conference Championship in 2016. In the process, they have played a pivotal role in establishing a new legacy of success here at Concordia University in the NCAA Div. II.

Along with senior night festivities, Flynn made history during set two when she became the all-time leader in career kills at Concordia.

The Eagles dominated set one 25 -7. They put together two seven-point runs to maintain the lead, fueled by kills from Hailey Gaines, Jaclyn Brown and Flynn. Rose and Cindy Tran jumped in with a block and a kill apiece to help close out the set.

Game two, the Vulcans elevated their defensive play to apply pressure on the Eagles. After hitting .467 as a team in set one, UHH held the Eagles to a .182 attack percentage. The Eagles managed to put up 17 kills to close out the game, highlighted by Flynn's record breaking tenth kill of the night.

After falling behind 17-13 in set three, Concordia closed the gap by two after a Vulcan service error and a Tran kill. After handing over a point, Concordia cooked up five straight kills from Diederich and two from Rose and Tran to reclaim the lead. Flynn found success on match point to seal the senior night victory.

Rose finished the night with 10 kills and Diederich had 17 assists and 16 digs. Deters posted nine digs and eight assists.

CUI has two more home games, starting with Friday's matchup against the Dixie State Trailblazers at 7 p.m. in CU Arena.
