Eagles take down Trailblazers in three sets

With only two games remaining on their regular season schedule, the Eagles took down the Trailblazers of Dixie State Friday night in CU Arena in a PacWest matchup. The 3-0 sweep improved Concordia's record to 17-9 and 13-6 in conference.

Concordia gained control of the match early, taking a commanding 25-14 win in set one. Amber Rose opened up the night with a kill from Jessica Diederich and Cindy Tran grabbed the Eagles a second point from a put away. Freshman Riley Gill struck next with a service ace for the 3-0 lead. Despite gaining a comfortable lead, the Trailblazers evened the game at 12 apiece. But the Eagles dialed in and put together a 13-1 scoring run for the win.

The script shifted slightly in set two, with the Eagles chasing Dixie State. After falling behind 12-9, a Hailey Gaines kill and two Trailblazer mistakes gave the Eagles a reset at 12-12. Concordia jumped on the opportunity to reclaim momentum and scored six straight. The Eagles worked for the 24-21 game point, but Dixie State applied pressure and forced a timeout at 24-23. Gaines put down a set from Madeline Deters to snag set two.

Down 2-0, the Trailblazers surged to a 13-8 lead. Kills from Rose, Rachel Flynn, Jaclyn Brown and another Gill service ace helped the Eagles cut the deficit to one. Dixie State continued to score points and put the Eagles behind 21-18. Flynn's killed followed by back-to-back aces from Rose tied the game at 21. Tied again at 23, Flynn put away the final kill of the game before Dixie State gave the Eagles the last two points for the 25-23 win.

Saturday at 5 p.m., the Eagles play their final conference match against the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds.
