Ari Claro scored a goal in his third consecutive game on Thursday as the Eagles defeated Notre Dame de Namur 2-0. With the win, Concordia handed the Argonauts their second loss all season.
William Whiddon had the start in the goal for the Eagles and withstood heavy fire in the 15
th minute of the game. He saved back-to-back shots before
Ty O'Connor made a save of his own to keep the Argos off the board.
Claro put Concordia in front in the 37
th minute of the match. He took a shot from 35 yards out and netted the ball in the upper right corner of the goal. The defender now has three goals on the season after scoring in his third straight game.
The Eagles took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
NDNU's Esteban Berumen took a shot at the goal as the second half began but was denied by Whiddon.
Whiddon made another big save in the 62
nd minute, keeping a header out of the net.
Randall McDermott scored his second goal of the season in the 64
th minute of the game, taking a loose ball and finding the net from 12 yards out. This extended the Eagle lead to 2-0.
Whiddon made two more saves in the last 10 minutes of the game to earn the shutout, lifting Concordia over the Argos.
Whiddon finished the game with a season-high six saves in Concordia's seventh shutout of the season.
With two games remaining, the Eagles improve to 7-2-1 in PacWest play.
They take on Dominican on Saturday in San Rafael, Calif. at 2:30 p.m.
