Strong defensive game ends in 0-0 draw

A defensive battle ended in a scoreless draw on Saturday after the Eagles took on the Penguins of Dominican University.  The game went into double overtime before ending 0-0.
 
William Whiddon had a stellar performance, not allowing a goal for the second game in a row.  He made eight saves throughout the game.
 
His first save came in the 10th minute when he denied DUC's Matt Case.
 
Randall McDermott took a shot for the Eagles at the 13-minute mark but the shot was saved by the Penguin goalie.
 
Whiddon made two more saves in the 14th and 17th minute of the game, keeping Dominican off the board.
 
In an attempt to break the scoreless tie, Jose Huerta took two shots at the net but both shots were saved.
 
Eric Torres and McDermott started the second half with shots for Concordia but were unable to find the back of the net.
 
Cameron Merrill, Ether Bustos and Julian Font also did their best to get the Eagles on the board but were unable to do so as the game went into overtime.
 
Dominican took two shots in the first period of overtime.  Both shots were saved by Whiddon to keep the game going.
 
Michael Oakson took the Eagles' lone shot of the second overtime period but was denied by the DUC goalie.
 
Whiddon made back-to-back saves in the final minute of overtime to close the game out.
 
The Eagles outshot Dominican 17-16; though DUC had eight shots on goal compared to Concordia's six.  Torres and McDermott led the Eagle offense with three shots each. 
 
Whiddon saved a season high eight goals, surpassing his previous season high of six from the previous game against NDNU.
 
With their third tie of the season, the Eagles sit at a record of 9-4-3 in PacWest play with one game remaining.  They will close the 2017 season out against Academy of Art in San Francisco at 2:30 p.m.
