Concordia Women's Basketball clinched its first PacWest win of the 2017-2018 season Thursday night. The Eagles defeated Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii (65-47).
Freshman
Michaela Vanderklugt posted a double-double with 15 rebounds and 18 points.
Sopavy Seng added 11 points and 10 rebounds and
Portia Neale chipped in nine more with nine rebounds.
The Eagles jetted to a 14-0 lead with baskets from Seng, Vanderklugt, Neale and
Riley Friauf. After a quick four-point Silversword run, Vanderklugt hit a three to claim a 14 point lead.
Morgan Bryant and
Reilly Walsh added two apiece before the end of the first period buzzer sounded.
Concordia only posted three points from free throws in the second until
Montana Walters sunk a three-pointer with 2:46 remaining. The Eagles entered the half with a 15 point lead over Chaminade.
With the Silverswords attempting to crack the Eagles' control, Vanderklugt tallied nine points in the third to help Concordia maintain its double-digit lead. They finalized the victory in the fourth with points from six different Eagles.
Saturday, the Eagles (3-2) play the second game of their Hawaiian tour against Hawaii Pacific. The matchup with the Sharks begins at 3 p.m. PST.
