With a lengthy road trip to open up the 2017-2018 PacWest portion of its schedule, Concordia capitalized on the challenge with three-straight wins. The final victory of their trip came over the Vulcans of the University of Hawai'i at Hilo on Monday night. Concordia, now 3-0 in conference and 5-2 on the year, took down its opponent 61-51.
Kennedy Fulcher scored 15 points with three assists, one point and one steal.
Montana Walters made seven of eight free throws to help her reach 13 points to go along with five assists. Senior
Portia Neale had 10 points and two assists.
Sopavy Seng led the team in rebounds with eight, six of them coming on defense.
Despite falling behind by eight to open up the game, Concordia kept its cool.
Michaela Vanderklugt snapped the Vulcan scoring streak with a layup and Concordia chipped away at the deficit with help from Walters and Maddie Sulka. The Eagles' efforts left them with a 13-12 lead entering the second.
Riley Friauf scored on a layup to extend Concordia's point count and although the Vulcans came within one, the Eagles did not relinquish their lead.
With the Vulcans applying pressure in the third, the Eagles utilized timely three-pointers and accurate free throw shooting to maintain control of the game. The fourth quarter and game came down to free throws for the Eagles. Concordia displayed its focus and grit, making ten out of twelve shots from the line to secure the win.
