Grayson Harvey recorded her fourth win of the year in a seven inning showdown against Adelphi University. Harvey allowed five hits and struck out six Panthers.
Leadoff hitter Ryann Ferguson hit a shot to left field to start the game. McKinsey Thorpe reached first on a fielder's choice, putting Ferguson out at second. Thorpe stole second base and advanced to third on a wild throw. Michelle Lieng drove in Thorpe on an grounder and safely reached first. Lieng stole a base and then made it home on a Panther throwing error off of Amanda Gjertsen's hit.
Adelphi tied things up in the third on a two run homer. They claimed a 5-2 lead in the fourth on a walk and two big hits. The Eagles retaliated immediately.
Lauren Rodriguez singled to center field to kick off the comeback. Amy Eilefson moved Haylee Kloosterman, the pinch runner, to second on a single up the middle. Ferguson knocked in one run one an error from Adelphi's infield. Thorpe walked to load up the bases and Gjertsen brought in two more to even the score.
With Ferguson and Thorpe on first and second in the sixth, Gjertsen drew a walk to fill the bases. Alyssa Turner's walk brought home the go ahead run for the Eagles.
In the Panther's last chance at bats, three consecutive fly outs from the punched in the 6-5 Eagle win.
Game 2
Game two of Wednesday's double header ended in a 2-2 tie when the game was called for insufficient light.
Bethann Mccann only allowed one hit through four innings to hold the Panthers scoreless. In the top of the fifth, a two run homer over the left field fence gave Adelphi a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles staged another comeback. Thorpe reached base on a walk, bringing Gjertsen to the plate. She blasted a deep ball over the fence to put two on the board for the Eagles. During the seventh inning, the game was declared a tie because of the lack of light.
BethAnn McCann pitched 6.1 innings and only allowed two runs with two strike outs.
What's next:
The Eagles, now 8-5-2, begin PacWest play on Saturday with a double header against the Cal Baptist Lancers. The conference opener begins at 12 p.m. in Irvine, Calif. at Eagles Field.
