In the opening weekend of PacWest play, Concordia softball battled in a double header against the Cal Baptist Lancers.
Game 1: Concordia – 3 Cal Baptist 2
In the bottom of the second, Amy Eilefson kicked things off with a single down the right field line. Eilefson advanced to second on a grounder from Alyssa Turner. Lauren Rodriguez ripped a shot through the left side to bring Eilefson home safely for the 1-0 lead.
In the top of the third, the Lancers evened the score on a home run over the left field fence. The Lancers and Eagles stayed scoreless until the top of six when another solo homerun added a Lancer run.
At the next Eagle at bat, Eilefson reached base again. With Haylee Kloosterman in to pinch run, Turner's sacrifice bunt pushed her to second. Two wild pitches brought Kloosterman home for a 2-2 score entering the seventh.
The tie resulted in extra innings and Cal Baptist hit its third homerun of the game to capture a 3-2 advantage. Ryann Ferguson doubled to center field to start off the bottom of the ninth and moved to third on a ground ball from McKinsey Thorpe. But the Lancers escaped an Eagle come back with two more outs.
Concordia combined for six hits from six different batters, including doubles from Ferguson and Turner. Grayson Harvey struck out 10 during her nine innings on the mound.
Game 2: Concordia - 2 Cal Baptist – 6
With BethAnn McCann on the mound for the Eagles, Concordia returned for the second game of the day.
The two teams went scoreless until the Lancers added one in the sixth. Cal Baptist opened the game up in the seventh with five more runs.
Turner led off the bottom of the seventh for the Eagles, sending one deep over the left field fence. Nicole Chavez kept the energy rolling with a double down the left field line.  Concordia brought in one more run on a wild pitch, but their seventh inning efforts weren't enough to catch up to Cal Baptist.
The Eagles had six total hits to the Lancer's 12.
Concordia returns home March 2nd for a double header against Arizona Christian University beginning at 2 p.m. at Eagles Field.Â
