Concordia Softball scored major runs during Thursday's doubleheader to earn the Eagles two wins. Surged by 22 hits, Concordia posted 19 runs against the visiting Firestorm of Arizona Christian University.
Grayson Harvey took the mound for Concordia in game one. She sat down four and only allowed three hits in six innings before the game was called for the run rule.
BethAnn McCann got her fourth win of the year on five innings with three strike outs. Kailey Palazzolo pitched the final two innings of the day and gave up two runs and struck out two.
Game 1
In the bottom of the second, Lauren Rodriguez rallied with a two out single to left center. She scooted to second on a single from Nicole Chavez. Sarah Kretschmar came up next and singled through the right side to bring Rodriguez around.
McKinsey Thorpe opened up the third with a walk for the Eagles and Amanda Gjertsen followed up with a single. Palazzolo punched an RBI on a single up the middle and put the Eagles up by two. In the fourth, Kretschmar, Ryann Ferguson and Thorpe loaded up the bases. Gjertsen showed her power at the plate with a four run homer to left field to put the Eagles up by six.
In the sixth, Ferguson doubled to right field and Thorpe reached base on a single. Amy Eilefson ended the game with a three run home run over the left field fence to close the game out 9-0.
Game 2:
The Eagles exploded out of the gates in the second part of the day. Their five hits, two of which were doubles from Ferguson, gave them seven runs during their first at bat.
The Firestorm fought back with two runs in the third to reduce the Eagle lead to five.
Concordia continued to cruise in the fourth by adding two more runs. Thorpe drew a walk and Gjertsen landed on first from a Firestorm error. Eilefson moved the two runners on a fly ball to right field and Alyssa Turner's single brought them home.
Arizona Christian competed the remainder of the game with three more runs, but it wasn't enough to combat the Eagles' offensive showing.
Concordia improved its record to 10-7-2 on the year. The team heads out to Hawai'i for eight straight away PacWest games. They start with the University of Hawai'i at Hilo on Sunday, March 5th. The double header starts at 3 p.m.Â
