Timely Hitting Propels Eagles to Victory

After winning both games of the double header on Saturday, the Eagles returned to the field to face Hawaii Hilo in game three of the series.  Continuing the trend from the previous two games, strong pitching and timely hitting propelled Concordia to a 4-3 win.

Mike Killeen started on the mound for the Eagles and did not allow a run through his first three innings of work.

The Vulcans struck first in the top of the fourth beginning with a leadoff double.  A ground ball followed by a sacrifice fly brought in a run, putting Hilo up 1-0.

Concordia answered back in the bottom half of the fourth as Jair Donovan drew a walk to lead off the inning.  Bailey Collins wore a pitch off the thigh and was awarded first base, putting two on with no outs for Hunter Holland.  Holland laid down a successful sacrifice bunt, his second of the game, advancing both.  A ground ball from Cade Temple brought in Donovan and put Collins on third with two outs.  Dillon Millar produced the Eagles' first hit of the game by way of an RBI single to put the Eagles up 2-1.

A few hits for the Vulcans tied the game up in the top of the fifth, and the Eagles again answered back with two runs.

Ryan Land got things started with a hard hit single.  Haloa Dudoit reached on an error that also allowed Land to advance to second.  Donovan stepped up with two on and one out and sent a missile into right center to bring in both runners, giving Concordia a 4-2 lead.

Killeen allowed one in the seventh before turning the ball over to Jason McLellan in the top of the eighth.  After giving up a leadoff single, he retired the next three batters he faced.

Temple would move from DH to the mound in the top of the ninth, coming in to close out the game.  He would go on to earn his second save of the season while going 2-4 at the plate with an RBI.

With the win, Killeen improves to 3-2 on the season.

Donovan led the Eagle offense, going 2-3 with a walk, stolen base, and two RBIs including the game winner.

Concordia now sits at a 6-4 record in PacWest play and will conclude the series with Hawaii Hilo on Monday at 3 p.m. at Eagles Field.
