The Eagles faced off with Academy of Art over the weekend and split the PacWest series.
Game 1: Eagles - 1 Academy of Art - 0
Neil Lang earned his second win of the year during this pitching duel. He allowed only one hit and struck out nine during his six innings on the mound. Carpenter Pagett picked up the save. He went three innings with five strikeouts and one walk.
The lone run came in the top of the sixth. Ryan Land drew a walk and stole second. Haloa Dudoit singled to left field to bring Land across.
Dudoit dominated at the plate with three of the Eagles' five hits.
Game 2: Eagles - 6 Academy of Art – 4
On Saturday's opening game, the Eagles scored early with two runs in the second. Cade Temple walked and Dillon Millar moved him to third on a double to left field. Temple took advantage of a pass ball to score the first run of the game. Joey Thompson flied out to left to knock in Millar.
Academy of Art came back in the second with two runs on two hits and one error.
Land singled own the right field line to open up the third and advanced to third on Dudiot's bunt and a Vulcan throwing error. Jair Donovan delivered an RBI on a fielder's choice for the go ahead run.
The Vulcans tied it up in the bottom of the fifth, but the Eagles put up three in the sixth on hits from Donovan, Collins, Temple and Millar.
Academy of Art added one more, but it wasn't enough to reclaim a lead. Mike Killeen received the win on six innings with two strikeouts. Morgan Brannock had the save after three innings of relief.
Game 3: Eagles - 3 Academy of Art – 4
Their first loss of the weekend came in the seven inning, part two of Saturday's doubleheader.
Academy of Art jumped out offensively early with three runs in the bottom of the first.
Collins singled to center to start the second for the Eagles and Millar followed up with a single. Hunter Holland doubled to left center for an RBI and the first Eagle run.
Trailing 4-1, Concordia continued to fight in the seventh. Chris Martin doubled to left center and Land singled down the left side. Dudoit and Donovan each got a RBI to cut the lead down to one, but the Eagles were unable to send the game to the bottom of the seventh.
Game 4: Eagles - 3 Academy of Art – 4
The series finale was a tight match from start to finish. Collins continued his hot streak at the plate with a double to right field. The team complied three hits to tally two runs. The Eagles held their lead until Academy of Art tied it up in the fourth.
Concordia grabbed another lead in the sixth on a single from Collins. The Urban Knights responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the seventh.
In their final chance to come back, Land doubled to right center. With two outs, Donovan singled up the middle to score Land. Despite the late game push, the Urban Knights sealed the victory.
Concordia continues with PacWest play in St. George, Utah beginning Friday. The first of the four game series against the Trailblazers begins at 6 p.m.Â
