Concordia Softball extended its win streak to five after defeating Chaminade University twice Tuesday. Their road trip winning continued with a 4-0 decision in game one and 4-3 victory in game two against the Silverswords.
Game 1: Concordia – 4 Chaminade – 0
The Eagles scored in the first inning when a throwing error on Kailey Palazzolo's ground ball brought McKinsey Thorpe across.
Nicole Chavez kicked off the second with a single to center field and advanced a base on a sacrifice bunt from Lauren Rodriguez. Sarah Kretschmar tripled to right field on a full count to add an Eagle run. Ryann Ferguson delivered the final run of the inning with a RBI fly.
In the top of the seventh, Kretschmar was hit by a pitch with two outs. Ferguson roped a single to left and moved her teammate to second. The duo each stole a base and Kretschmar came home on a Silverword throwing error.
Grayson Harvey gave the Eagles cushion throughout the game. In her seventh win, she gave up two hits, allowed zero runs and sent 11 Silverswords back to the dug out on strike outs.
Game 2: Concordia – 4 Chaminade – 3
The second game of the series was a tighter affair and offensive face off. The Eagles tallied 12 hits and Chaminade had 10 of their own.
Chaminade's scoring came quick off of a solo homerun in the bottom of the first. In the third, a second solo homer gave the Silverswords a 2-0 lead.
Concordia showcased its resilience in the fourth by putting three runs on the board. Alyssa Turner singled with one out and Amanda Gjertsen walked. With Ashley Balestreri in to pinch run for Gjertsen, Mackenzie Graham gave the Eagles the edge with a three run home run to left center on the first pitch of her at bat.
In the bottom of four, yet another Silversword solo show tied the score. But the Silverswords weren't the only team showing their power at the plate.
The Eagles regained the lead they did not relinquish the remainder of the game in the sixth on a solo bomb from Gjertsen.
Jordan Quinn allowed no runs in her 2.2 innings and acquired her second win. Harvey closed out the game, striking out two in her one inning for the save.
Thorpe went 4-4 at the plate. Ferguson and Turner each had two hits.
Concordia is now 5-3-0 in the PacWest and 15-8-2 on the season. The squad continues its stint on the road Thursday with a double header against Hawaii Pacific. Games are scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Live stats are available through Hawaii Pacific.
