Concordia capped off its four game series against Dixie State Saturday at Eagles Field with one win and a loss to end the weekend at a 2-2 tie.
The Eagle offense ran like a well oil machine in game one to forge the victory. The team laid down 10 hits with RBIs from four different players to take a 6-3 win.
Dixie State had two errors to start the bottom of the second to set the Eagles up to score. With Ryann Ferguson and McKinsey Thorpe on Alyssa Turner smoked a RBI single down the right field line. Then, Nicole Chavez laid down a picturesque bunt to sneak Thorpe through.
After holding the Trailblazers in their at bat, the Eagles returned to the attack. Lauren Rodriguez reached on an error and went to second on a wild pitch. Heather Nonora put down a bunt to push Rodriguez to third. Ferguson struck next with a RBI single to left center. Following Ferguson – Thorpe, Gjertsen and Turner consecutive singles for one more Eagle run.
Dixie State shrunk the Eagle lead to one in the third with five hits. Although the Trailblazers were close to catching Concordia, they never relinquished the lead.
In the fifth, the first baseman Amy Eilefson opened things up with a single up the middle. Then, Rodriguez roped a ball over the fence for a two run homer and 6-3 score.
