Powered by its pitching prowess, the Eagles earned two shut outs and two wins over the Holy Names Hawks.
Grayson Harvey and BethAnn McCann both shut out the Hawk offense and only allowed a combined four hits. Harvey owned the circle in game one with nine strikeouts and one Hawk hit in five innings. McCann pitched six innings, giving up three hits and sitting down five.
Concordia captured three of its nine runs in the first inning. With two outs, Amanda Gjertsen walked and Alyssa Turner took a pitch for a single up the middle. Nicole Chavez kept the inning alive when she reached on a Holy Names error. Amy Eilefson hit a two RBI single to the outfield and Sarah Kretschmar followed up with a RBI single for the 3-0 lead.
In the second, Heather Nonora used her speed to lead off with a single. Centerfielder Ryann Ferguson came up to the plate next, and made it to first on a Hawk mistake. McKinsey Thorpe advanced the two to scoring position on a sacrifice bunt and Gjertsen capitalized with two RBIs and a base hit.
Only four innings into the game, the Eagles sealed the win with four more runs on two hits, with RBIs from Eilefson and Kretschmar. Harvey closed out the game with a hat-trick of strikeout and 9-0 final score.
During game two, the Eagles posted eight hits with two doubles and a home run.
Hanna Miller and Mackenzie Graham got things going in the second with back-to-back hits and Kretschmar was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kaylee Dalgarn singled to right to bring the first run across and Ferguson hit a sacrifice fly ball to bring in the second.
Graham's next at bat, she knocked one deep over the center field fence for a solo home run. Kretschmar doubled to left field in the sixth to bring the final Eagle run across.
Kailey Palazzolo came in to relieve McCann and sent the Hawk line up down in order. She forced a grounder, fielded a tough bunt with a crisp throw to first and struck out a batter to finish it.
With only four games left to play, the Eagles are 33-14-2 overall and 19-9-0 in the PacWest. Concordia returns to Eagles Field at 12 p.m. Saturday for a double header against Notre Dame de Namur.Â
