Harvey has a no-no against the Argonauts with 12 strike outs

Grayson Harvey is second in the conference in wins (18), first in batters struck out (171), and second in innings pitched with 156 in the bank. Saturday, against the Argonauts of Notre Dame De Namur, Harvey reminded everyone why.

Harvey tossed a no-hitter in game one of the double header, an improvement on her already impressive showing yesterday against Holy Names, in which she threw a one hitter. In only six innings of work, she posted 12 strikeouts before the Eagles finished the game early on the run rule.

After sending three straight Argonauts back to the dug out on K's to open up the game, Concordia gave Harvey some cushion.

Ryann Ferguson led off with a single and then McKinsey Thorpe laid down a bunt. Amanda Gjertsen reached on a fielder's choice next to load the bases. Alyssa Turner singled through the left side for two RBIs.

In the bottom of five, left fielder Heather Nonora beat out a bunt and then skipped to second on a passed ball. Ferguson blasted a double to right field and Thorpe loaded the bases on a walk. Gjertsen then took four balls to bring in one Eagle run. Nicole Chavez and Amy Eilefson each brought a run in and Sarah Kretschmar ripped a game ending RBI triple.

In the second game of the day and the fourth game of the weekend, the Eagles looked to close it out with four straight wins.

BethAnn McCann was clutch in the circle for the Eagles and threw a two-hitter for her fourteenth win of the year. While the Argonauts struggled at the plate, Concordia put together 15 hits in six innings.

They snuck the lead early in the second with three runs on six hits. Chavez broke things open with a double to right center and Hanna Miller made her move next with a RBI single. Kailey Palazzolo punched a single to the short stop and Ferguson found a gap in right center for a two RBI single.

Four innings in, the Eagles added two more on a base hit from Eilefson and a sacrifice fly from Chavez.

Thorpe led off the sixth with a walk, stole second and advanced to third on the throw. Mackenzie Graham grounded out to the short stop but brought Thorpe home safely. Eilefson set the Eagles one away from the run rule with a solo shot over the fence in left center. Chavez singled again to put the winning run on base and Miller hit a walk-off double to finish the game early.

Next week, the Eagles host their final games of the year against the APU Cougars. The double header begins at 12 p.m. after the Senior Day Ceremony. Concordia will honor the four seniors: BethAnn McCann, Lauren Rodriguez, Nicole Chavez and Hanna Miller.
