The Eagles hit four straight wins Saturday after downing the Sunbirds of Fresno Pacific 4-1. With the entirety of the streak coming during PacWest competition, Concordia is one of three teams to remain undefeated in conference play.
28 minutes into the match, the Eagles drew a free kick right outside of the box. Freshman Michael Oakson capitalized on the opportunity. Randall McDermott sent a cross through the box to find Oakson crashing the net. Oakson's volleyball flew straight past the keeper for the 1-0 lead.
During the second, the Eagles' scoring didn't slow down.
Just under five minutes in, Ty O'Connor sent a deep ball across the field and found McDermott inside the Sunbirds' 18. McDermott flicked it to Julian Font who was flying towards the goal. Font controlled the ball and quickly tapped it past the goalkeeper for his third goal of the year.
Following Font's goal, the Eagles began connecting passes and pressing the Sunbirds' back line.
72 minutes into the match, Andrew Almeida attacked. He dished a pass off to Jose Garfias who charged towards the net. After drawing the goalie out, he sent the ball to Austin Nazer. Nazer took a shot that was blocked by a Sunbird defender but Almeida followed the play and drilled one to the back of the net.
The final Eagle strike came from O'Connor. Elijah Amadin booted a corner kick with under five to play and O'Connor connected for the 4-0 advantage.
Although the Eagles gave up on goal in the 85th minute, William Whiddon had five saves.
Wednesday, Concordia travels to Riverside, Calif. for a game against Cal Baptist at 3 P.M.
