LA MIRADA, Calif. — The Concordia Men's Basketball team (11-6, 5-4 PWC) landed above .500 in conference play after a PacWest win over Biola (6-11, 0-9 PWC) on Saturday night. Biola's 19 turnovers along with nine Concordia three pointers proved helpful in a 75-61 Eagles victory.
Geoff Gerlach led Concordia off the bench with 17 points and five rebounds on the night. Tad Dufelmeier followed with 16 points, five assists and six rebounds. JT Roach added 13 points of his own with three assists.
Brian Chambers sent a message early in the game with a three pointer, about a minute in. Layups by Dufelmeier and Chambers kept Concordia within a point of Biola's early lead.
Five seconds after entering the game, Tyler Lacour hit a three pointer to grab the lead for CUI.
Gerlach posted back to back layups that were soon followed with a three pointer from Lacour, who was two for two from outside. The Eagles led 17-10 with 12 minutes remaining and Biola entered its third consecutive minute without a field goal.
Biola then made an nine point climb, meeting Concordia at 19-19. The teams continued to match each other almost point for point until Biola took its largest lead of the game after a three pointer, 33-29.
With 14 seconds remaining in the first half, Chambers tossed a layup to tie the score once again 33-33. Biola notched two free throws and the teams headed to halftime with a 35-33 Biola lead.
The first five points of the second half were added to Concordia as they took the lead away from Biola. JT Roach drained a three pointer just 35 seconds into the second half, followed with a layup by Mike Mellinger.
A huge steal in the 15th minute by Chambers led to an alley-oop pass from Dufelmeier and field goal from Chambers. The Concordia offense continued to grow its lead with a three pointer from Roach. The Eagles led 45-41 and forced a Biola timeout.
Finding momentum again, back to back three pointers by Mellinger and Dufelmeier propelled the Concordia offense. Gerlach and Roach took Concordia to its largest lead of the game with a layup each, 59-44.
A final three pointer by Roach and layup by Gerlach rounded out the scoring for the Eagles. Concordia defeated Biola 75-61.
