Concordia Irvine Track and Field competed at the Dr. Martin Luther King Collegiate Invitational Friday and Saturday in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Amongst tough competition, including Division I powerhouses, the Eagles didn't back down. Instead, they showcased their talents and training in the first competition since early December.
The Women: D'oni Evans and Zoe Scott-Goss were the Eagles' top finishers. Evans finished in 7.88 seconds while Scott-Goss was closed behind at 7.9 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Malia Avila posted a 26.08 finish. She also was the first Eagle to cross the line in the 60-meter hurdles, coming in at 9.54 seconds. In the 600-meter run, competing with athletes from schools such as UCLA and USC, freshman Jenna Lanskey placed 16th of 30 at 1:42.69. Madison Hergert came in at 56.22 seconds in the 400-meter dash, and also represented the Eagles in the 4 x 400-meter relay with Morgan Schepker, Fatoumata Wague and Halimat Adeyemi. The squad completed the event in 4:01. 86 seconds. In the long jump, Sarah Herron leapt 5.55-meters as the top Eagle flier.
The Men: David Emeche and Gregory Warner ran a close race in the 60-meters, coming in just .13 seconds apart at 7.30 and 7.43. Emeche was also the first CUI athlete to complete the 200-meter dash at 21.89. In the pole vault, Josh Fry finished fifteenth. He also ran the 600-meters and posted a 1:31.07. William Best ran the 3,000 meters and completed the distance race in 9:27.82 seconds. Jayson Baker was 12th in the 800-meter, coming in at 2:01.02. Christopher Henderson participated in the 60-meter hurdles and triple-jump. He sped to 8.79 seconds and flew 14.11 meters. Ryan Woodard threw the shotput 11.55-meters and Chais Hamilton tossed 13.52-meters in the weighted throw.
"The talent that we had at the meet did fairly well and looking forward to next weekend running against similar level competition," Head Coach Danny Bowman said.
