The Concordia men's soccer team racked up the shots and the corner kicks at Hawai'i Hilo Thursday night but ultimately was saddled with a 2-1 loss.
Â
Neither team could put the ball in the net before intermission.  The Eagles let it fly with 13 shots in the first half but walked into halftime empty-handed.
Â
The tide turned when
Julian Font tallied his second goal of the year in the 69th minute of action. Font converted off a cross by
Jose Garfias to beat the Hawai'i Hilo keeper. The score gave Concordia a brief 1-0 lead and it appeared the Eagles would complete the first leg of their three-game swing through Hawai'i with a victory.
Â
Unfortunately, the Vulcans had other plans.
Â
Those plans involved not-so-secret weapon Matt Wilkinson.  The Hawai'i Hilo junior was able to net the equalizer in the 74th minute. Then when the match looked destined for overtime, Wilkinson struck again in the 89th minute off a free kick.
Â
Concordia racked up 21 shots and earned nine corners over the course of the match. The Vulcans managed just nine shots and two corners but escaped with an improbable 2-1 victory.
Â
The next chance for the Eagles to get back in the win column comes Saturday when they travel to Hawai'i Pacific.
