Fernandez Shines in Loss at Hawai'i Hilo

HILO, HAWAI'I - The Eagles went to Hawaii Hilo for their last match on their three game trip. The Eagles could would come close to taking the Vulcans to a fourth set, but would lose in three sets. 

The Eagles would come out strong in the first set, with Jaclyn Brown serving and a couple errors from the Vulcans would give the Eagles an 8-5 lead. They would continue their lead until the Vulcans went on a five point run to take the lead 17-20. Concordia would take a timeout and catch a break with a missed serve, giving them a chance with Hannah Tostado at the back line to serve, getting the Eagles back in the game with a 20-20 tie. The Eagles could not come back as they would lose the first set, 21-25. 

The second set was in the Vulcans favor as they would go on a run to take a commanding lead from the Eagles, 9-16. With this deficit, the Eagles could not come back, losing the second set, 18-25. 

Concordia would need to win the third set in order to take the Vulcans to a fourth set. The Eagles came out fighting in the third set, leading by just a couple points for the majority of the game. The Vulcans were able to tie with the Eagles at 15 all, but they were able to break away for a little to continue their lead. Two aces from Hawaii Hilo would give the Vulcans a lead and forcing the Eagles to take a timeout. A kill from Patience O'Neal would give them a score 22-21, while the Vulcans retaliated with two kills, giving them the lead 23-22. Another timeout from Concordia and a kill from Jaclyn Brown would give the Eagles a 23 all game, only needed two points to force a fourth set. Concordia was not able to hang on after two kills from Hilo to finish the game in their favor. 

Cambria Fernandez led the Eagles with ten kills, while Patience O'Neal was right behind with nine kills. Emily LaCroix-Dalluhn and Cambria Fernandez both recorded three blocks and Ailsa Watson had 18 assists with six digs. 

The Eagles would finish the road trip with a 7-15, 6-8 PacWest record, playing Notre Dame De Nemur on their home court on October 18 at 7:00 PM.
