IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team opened up an early lead against the visiting Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts and ultimately coasted to a 3-0 victory.
The Eagles improved to 5-3-1 in PacWest play and are now 3-0-1 in their last four outings.
After getting awarded a free kick in the first half, Eagles sophomore
Carmany Jones quickly pushed the ball to
McKenna Carrillo who unleased a long drive that found the back of the net.
The Eagles enjoyed a 1-0 lead for most of the first half until
Cienah Reed cashed in after
Keely Abt put pressure on the Argonauts goalkeeper. Abt was able to head the ball towards Reed off a throw in by freshman
Kayla Figueroa to give the Eagles a 2-0 cushion at the break.
In the second half, true freshman
Scout Farmer earned her first career goal as an Eagle. Farmer dribbled up the left side around a defender and was able to catch the defense off guard. The Concordia bench exploded after the whistle blew as the three-goal lead proved to be insurmountable.
"It makes me feel really excited, I literally started crying on the field," Farmer said about her first career goal. "It was really something I needed at this point in the season and in my career. "
"This win really helped us to continue fighting for the seniors in their last couple games. Just knowing that we still have it in us is a great feeling" Farmer said.
Concordia will be back at home on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 3:30 p.m. against the Dominican Penguins. Senior Day will be Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1:00 p.m. against Holy Names. Both contests will start approximately 30 minutes after the men's matches conclude as part of the scheduled PacWest conference doubleheaders.
