Johnson, Lyon Score As Eagles Post Third Straight Shutout

IRVINE, Calif. — Coming off a 3-0 PacWest victory against Notre Dame de Namur, Eagles women's soccer (8-6-2, 6-3-1 PWC) kept its spirits high heading into Thursday match. Concordia hosted the Penguins of Dominican University (6-9-2, 3-6-1 PWC) and emerged victorious, 2-0.

Goals by Kryssa Johnson and Emma Lyon sealed the Eagles fate. Lyon and McKenna Carrillo led the squad with three shots each, while Kaelyn Whitcomb posted two saves from the goal.

With four minutes remaining in the first half, Johnson received the ball at her feet near the top of the 18-yard box. She passed to Keely Abt and a give-and-go combination ensued leaving Johnson with the ball facing open goal. The senior finished with a shot to the bottom corner netting and gave the Eagles the 1-0 lead before halftime.

Less than three minutes into the second half, Johnson found herself in the box again. This time freshman Emma Lyon joined her, running up the center. Johnson flicked a pass to Lyon who finished with a lofted shot to the side of the keeper.

Dominican fought back with a few offensive presses but were outmatched by Eagles backline. Concordia held the Penguins to a 2-0 shutout and earned their sixth PacWest win.

Coming Up: Concordia women's soccer is having their Senior Day on Saturday November 3 against Holy Names. Senior Day festivities will take place at Eagles Field before the 1 p.m. kick off time.
