SAN DIEGO, Calif. — On Thursday, Eagles women's soccer (3-4-1, 1-1-0 PWC) looked to earn its second PacWest conference victory and pivot Point Loma's win streak. Falling short, the Sea Lions took the match 2-0 after regulation time.
Point Loma (8-1-0, 4-0-0) was picked fourth in the 2018 PacWest preseason poll with only one first place vote. This landed the squad right behind Concordia, who occupied third place with three first place votes. Both teams defeated the PacWest preseason favorite, Fresno Pacific, in conference play this season.
The teams were almost even in shot count after the first half in the head-to-head battle. Concordia fired five shots to Point Loma's six. The Eagles offense forced five corner kicks throughout the game and Point Loma earned just three. Kaelyn Whitcomb started in goal for the Eagles and recorded five saves on the day.
PLNU's Glaser scored in the 22nd minute from a ball that was won in the midfield and a cross and finish combination to get her team on the board. The second goal of the match also came from Glaser but this time, in the second half. Following a Concordia free kick, the Sea Lions counter attacked and Glaser touched it by the keeper to find the net and round out the scoring at 2-0.
