After collecting a 4-1 win over Biola in a non-conference meeting earlier this season, the Concordia men's soccer team had plans of continuing that offensive success in a rematch of PacWest rivals.
Unfortunately for the Eagles wearing Green and Gold, the Eagles donning the Red and Black had other ideas.
Biola's Leo Thompson helped the home team set the tone with a stunning goal just 53 seconds into the match. But Concordia quickly regrouped to get back on track.
Huntington Beach native
Jose Huerta tallied his first goal of the year to help the visiting Eagles draw even in the 29th minute.
A total of five yellow cards were handed out as both sides maintained an aggressive style of play and each team racked up at least a dozen shots, but neither team could find the back of the net to break the tie in regulation.
The game remained tied at 1-1 until overtime, when Thompson again stunned the Concordia defense with a timely goal in the 101st minute of action.
Concordia and Biola are now both 4-5 overall and 2-1 in PacWest action.
After scoring twice in a win over Point Loma, Concordia's leading scorer
Connor Gordon was held in check. Gordon still leads the conference with 11 goals on the season but was able to only get one shot on goal in this match as Biola tried to limit any scoring chances.
Concordia continues its six-game road trip next week as the Eagles head to Hawai'i to battle Hawai'i Hilo Thursday at 7:30 p.m. P.T.
