RIVERSIDE, Calif. — After taking down Cal Baptist 72-59 at CU Arena, the Concordia Men's Basketball team (12-9, 6-7 PWC) hit the road for a second PacWest contest against CBU (16-4, 9-3 PWC). Concordia's defense forced 21 Cal Baptist turnovers and, from those, scored 16 points. The Eagles continuous effort fell short in the second half and the Lancers took the victory, 66-56.
Game Leaders
JT Roach led the Eagles in points with 17, posting two rebounds and one steal.
Leading in team in rebounds with six, Brian Chambers also posted 11 points and had four steals on defense.
Tad Dufelmeier recorded 13 points and four assists on the night.
How It Happened
Early in the first half, Dufelmeier and Roach found the netting for the Eagles scoring a jumper each. Roach then followed up with a three pointer. The Eagles and the Lancers went point for point until four minutes remaining in the first half. CBU's Gabe Taylor hit a three pointer to break through, Eagles trailed 18-15.
A foul on Geoff Gerlach adds two successful free throws to round out the first half scoring for the Eagles. The Lancers led at halftime 25-17.
After a block by Cameron English, Mike Mellinger brought the heat for the Eagles. Mellinger drained a three pointer less than one minute into the second half. Soon after, Dufelmeier hit a three pointer to bring the Eagles within two points of the Lancers.
Almost three minutes passed without a field goal and Gerlach broke the spell with a layup.
The Eagles refused to quit and added layups and jumpers by Roach and Tyler Lacour. Another jumper by Roach, followed by a three pointer brought Concordia within seven points of CBU but proved not good enough against Lancer offense. After a tough physical battle in enemy territory, the Eagles fell to Cal Baptist 66-56.
