LA JOLLA, Calif. — Saturday afternoon, Eagles Baseball came up short in two head-to-head matchups with the No. 4 Colorado Mesa Mavericks (2-1) and the No. 7 UC San Diego Tritons (2-1). Dillon Millar hit a grand slam in game one and a solo shot in game two while Bailey Collins knocked a solo homer in game one and two.
Game 1: Concordia 8, No. 4 Colorado Mesa 9:
Neil Lang started on the mound for the Eagles, pitching five innings and striking out four Mavericks. Centerfielder Dillon Millar led the offensive attack going 2-for-5 with a grand slam, a single and a walk. Davis Tominaga was not far behind with a two-run homer of his own and a single to short. Completing the trio of homers, Bailey Collins (3-for-5) went yard to left field and knocked two singles through the right side.
The teams were tied at 8's at the end of the ninth inning and went to an extra to determine the decision. Despite Concordia's strength at the plate, Colorado Mesa put up a run in the top of the tenth and the Eagles offense came up just short.
Game 2: Concordia 3, No. 7 UC San Diego 10:
Concordia took a one run lead after a solo shot from Collins in the first inning, his second of the day. After the fourth inning, the Tritons led 5-1. The fifth inning proved hottest for Eagles bats starting with another home run from Millar and back to back doubles by Haloa Dudoit and Tominaga (RBI).
On the mound, sophomore RHP Cade Temple pitched three innings and allowed four hits and one earned run. Chris Martin and Collins went 2-for-3 at the plate in game two. Eagles offense outhit No. 7 UC San Diego 11 hits to 10 but dropped the contest.
