Tominaga walks it off in win over Cal Poly Pomona

IRVINE, Calif. — Concordia Baseball (3-6, 0-0) returned home from a four game road trip with a win over Cal Poly Pomona (2-2, 0-0).  In the twelve inning thriller, Davis Tominaga hit a walk-off two run home run to beat the Broncos 3-2.

The Broncos headed into 2018 with a No. 14 overall rank in the country by Collegiate Baseball.  As for the CCAA, the 2018 CCAA Preseason Coaches' Poll listed the Broncos to finish third overall in the league standings. Concordia took both games last year against Cal Poly Pomona, winning 5-3 and 5-4.

Carpenter Pagett started on the mound for the Eagles. The sophomore RHP threw five innings, struck out six Broncos, gave up five hits and one run. On the hill for the final 3.1 innings was Jason McLellan. The senior pitcher allowed three hits and struck out three to receive the win on the day.

Scoring Summary

The Broncos struck first in the top of the third inning and led 1-0 until the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Tony Garcia III singled up the middle and safely stole second. With Garcia in scoring position, Chris Martin hit a knock up the middle to score Garcia and tie the game at one.

In the top of the twelfth inning, Cal Poly went ahead one run. With the meat of the order coming up, the Eagles went to battle. Haloa Dudoit bunted for a single to get on base. Davis Tominaga entered the batters box and hit a bomb over the right field fence to bring Dudoit and Concordia home with a win.
