Concordia Men's Tennis made it four-straight wins Monday with a closely fought PacWest win over Point Loma. The 5-4 victory advanced the Eagles to 2-0 in conference and 4-0 on the year.
The competitive matchup with the Sealions started in doubles play.
Florian Mayer and
Thomas Kyle pulled off the 8-7 win after an intense battle.
Man Hon Ko and
Yubo Chen also won their doubles game by a slim 8-7 margin.
Concordia and Point Loma split in singles play, each winning three.
Nakita Katsnelson defeated CJ Erion 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Hon Ko won the fifth flight with scores of 6-3 and 7-5.
Shimon Murakami closed it out with a 3-6,6-3,7-6 win over Ben Smit.
The Last Matchup: Last week, the Eagles defeated Mesa Community College. Mayer and Bray won the no. 1 match by a slim margin of 8-7. Murakami and Kyle competed in the no. 2 flight, and defeated their opponents 8-5. Hon Ko and Chen rounded up the doubles play with a commanding 8-1 win.
In singles competition, Concordia won five of six matchups. Mayer bested Jorge Sala 6-2, 6-3 and Bray followed up with a victory. Kyle was victorious for CUI, winning his match 6-3, 7-6. Han Ko and Murakami pulled out the final two wins for the Eagles.
What's Next: Thursday, the Eagles will battle APU at 2 p.m. in Newport Beach, Calif. in a PacWest conference showdown. The Cougars are currently 5-0.
