Eagles Baseball falls to APU in PacWest opener

AZUSA, Calif. — On Thursday evening, Concordia Baseball (3-8, 0-1 PWC) hit the road for its first PacWest contest against Azusa Pacific University (11-0, 1-0 PWC). Azusa Pacific is ranked No. 13 in the NCBWA National Poll and is picked as the favorite in the NCBWA West Regional Poll. The Eagles recorded four hits and one run but fell to APU 8-1 after eight and a half innings.

RHP Carpenter Pagett (0-2) started on the mound for the Eagles. The sophomore pitched six innings and struck out seven Cougars, but received the loss for the day. Relieving Pagett on the hill was sophomore Alex Zalasky. The LHP threw two innings and allowed four Cougar hits.

Hunter Holland went 2-for-3 with a single to centerfield in the top of the second and a single to right in the fifth. Tyler Barry singled to centerfield in the top of the third inning. In the top of the seventh, Bailey Collins reached third after a dropped fly ball in center field. Nick Grimes hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Collins and knock the only Eagles RBI of the game. Chris Martin singled to first base in the eighth inning to round out the offense for Concordia.
